Romaeuropa Festival confirms its presence with a new program rebuilt according to the directives in force on distancing on stage and in theatres and full compliance with security measures.
From 18 September to 15 November, the festival presents a rich international program hosted in 14 different locations (two halls of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Teatro Argentina and Teatro India, six spaces of Mattatoio, two of the MAXXI – National Museum of the 21st Century Arts, Teatro Vascello, Teatro Quarticciolo and Villa Medici – Academy of France) and partly outdoor, for over 62 events and 141 days of entertainment in line and continuity with REf usual standards.
The event will be enriched with the new activities of EXTRACT, the original online section with 40 events conceived for the web, live streaming and a weekly show schedule curated by the festival staff.
With strong support for Italian companies, independent artists and a significant effort to guarantee a relevant international presence, the REf20 confirms its vocation and renews its vision of the present through the various looks of contemporary creation, with a marked generational turnover and 70% of the artists performing for the first time at the festival.
THE REf SECTIONS
Rumori by Martina Badiluzzi acts as an ideal bridge with Anni Luce, the section curated by Maura Teofili and dedicated to the Italian theatre scene, which this year implements its attention to the enhancement of emerging creation and Under35 with new projects: Situazione Drammatica puts online the most prestigious national awards dedicated to the new dramaturgy, in a project of readings – which involves professional actors and student actors of the two-year specialization of the National Academy of Dramatic Art Silvio d’Amico – created in collaboration with Rai Radio 3 in Sold Out! – The Month of the Theater; Powered by REf is instead a new tutoring and residence path dedicated to the generation of twentysomethings and created in collaboration with Carrozzerie N.O.T., 369Gradi, Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, ATCL Lazio and Centro Unico Regionale delle Residenze del Lazio.
This latest call joins the renewed appointments with the Vivo d’Arte competition, promoted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (intended for Italian Under35 artists living abroad), Sounds of Silences competition for music for images, presented by Edison Studio in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, Opera 4.0 in collaboration with Macerata Opera Festival and DNAppunti Coreografici – dedicated to supporting young choreographers – and part of the Dancing Days section dedicated to new European dance trends.
REf Kids & Family, curated by Stefania Lo Giudice, renews its attention to Italian creation for children in a rich and varied program at the Mattatoio, between theatre, dance, music and new circus with a further reduction of places to welcome children and their parents in complete safety.
Finally, the Digitalive section curated by Federica Patti: a program dedicated to the most cross-over creations between electronic music, performances, videos and works in AR and VR. Between virtual and real, EXTRACT, the new REF online project, which has about 40 events specifically for the web, alongside live streaming and a weekly schedule managed by the festival staff.
