Assisi
The true essence of Assisi can be discovered between the narrow alleys and the ascents of the old town. Remains of a Roman Amphitheater are still in the center of Perlici quarter: a travertine wedge arch, and a garden that lays on area once known as the arena.
Not far away from the Duomo, on Via del Torrione, two orders of more arches are there to be seen: that is what remains of a Roman Theater.
BASILICA OF SAN FRANCESCO:
As part of Unesco Heritage, this site is considered a treasure of the Italian sacred Art. It consists of two basilicas and a crypt where the tomb of Saint Francis is located. Inside the basilicas are frescoes by famous painters as Giotto and Cimabue who recount the life of the Saint.

BASILICA OF SANTA CHIARA:
The Gothic Basilica of Santa Chiara holds the relics of the Saint and the crucifix that once spoke to St. Francis. It is located on the opposite side of the Basilica of Saint Francis. The two Basilicas which face one another and look in the direction of Florence.

The majestic and beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria of the Angels located outside the walls is 4 km from the centre. Inside this Basilica there is the Porziuncola, a small church that represents one of the most important Franciscan places: here Saint Francis perceived his vocation and welcomed St. Clare and the first Friars. In this place St Francis received the Forgiveness of Assisi. The church became one of the favorite places of the Saint.

The Prisons Hermitage is the place where Saint Francis of Assisi and his followers retreated to pray and meditate. At a distance of 4 km from Assisi and 791 meters of altitude on the slopes of Mount Subasio, the Prisons Hermitage is located near some natural caves attended by hermits in the early Christian era.
